Indra Nooyi, the most powerful woman in business

February 5, 2008

This is my official first post, and it is dedicated to Karem, my dear girlfriend. Last January I got the Fortune magazine at the Frankfurt airport, because in Valencia it is hard to find it. Anyway, one of the most interesting articles is about the 25 most powerful business people, starring by Steve Jobs and many others famous people that we heard in the news every day. Well, in this list the number 23 is Indra Nooyi, the Chaiman and CEO at PepsiCo. I have heard about her, but I didn’t know how well she is doing at PepsiCo. According to the Fortune Magazine she is the most powerful women in business. In other important business magazines, Forbes, she is listed as the fifth most powerful women, and I have found there the reason for writing this post: “Being a woman, being a foreign-born, you’ve got to be smarter than anyone else”, she said. I really admire this woman. She is graduated from the Madras Christian College (where she studied Chemistry!), and later she got a Master Degree in Finance and Marketing from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. She has been doing a great job at PepsiCo since 2001 when she was named CFO, and she became CEO on August 14 from 2006. She is just a successful woman, with a great spirit.

  1. Hola, kike:

Me encuentro en Nueva York y quisiera saber si eres mi primo.

¿Eres hijo de mi tio Quique y de mi tia Martha?.

  2. Hey!, it’s very interesting what you are talking about, I think when being a woman, people put some obstacles, although there is a huge advance in many areas, the business world is mostly a businessMEN world. That’s the reason I’m agree with Indra Nooyi, you’ve got to be smarter than anyone, and I would add, you’ve got to be braver and stronger. But that is not only a issue of gender, is the reality for the minorities. At the end, I think if you want to succeed It is just a matter of attitude, don’t you think? So, now that you are a foreign, what are you doing for being smarter, braver and stronger? are you in the path for the success you want?

I’m waiting for reading more posts in your blog.

  3. This post remainded me of HUGO SANCHEZ, the great mexican soccer player when he went to play to Spain, for the “Real Madrid”. I think this happened in the 80’s.

Being a minority and a foreign born, Hugo didn’t had it easy over there. When he went out to the playfield, people yelled expletives at him and would call him names (¡INDIO! ¡INDIO DE MIERDA, VETE DE AQUI!, for instance), but Hugo, didn’t let that stop him. Actually he overcame the local racism and showed everybody-the whole world- what a positive, powerful mind and willpower to succed he had. He definetively had got to be smarter than everybody else.

  4. Dear fan, I really believe this world is changing every day, and women are more involved in the business world and they are doing a great job. I think it is only matter of time before women change the world, and I think it will be interesting.

Memo You right about Hugo Sanchez. He is one of the best players in the history of the Real Madrid. Probably, he is the best Mexican football player ever. I would like to write a little bit more about successful people, and I think Hugo Sanchez will be a great example! Thank you Memo for you comment!
